Indian FM Delivers Modi’s Message to President-Elect Raisi

TEHRAN -- Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has sent a written message via his foreign minister to Iranian President-elect Ebrahim Raisi, who has not formally taken office yet.
Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met with Raisi during a layover in Tehran on Wednesday evening.
Jaishankar, who stayed in Tehran for a couple of hours before flying to Moscow, relayed the written message from the Indian prime minister in the meeting with the winner of Iran’s recent presidential election.
Raisi, the former Judiciary Chief of Iran, won the June 18 presidential election by garnering over 62 percent of the votes. He will be sworn in as the 8th president of Iran at a ceremony in the Parliament on August 3.
After the layover in Tehran, the senior Indian diplomat flew to Russia for talks on the latest developments in Afghanistan.
Jaishankar will reportedly hold a bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to cement ties as well as prepare for President Vladimir Putin’s forthcoming visit to India.
