UNESCO Considers Registering Imam Reza’s (AS) Shrine

TEHRAN (IFILM) -- Imam Reza’s (AS) holy shrine may go to the list of UNESCO World Heritage, Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts reveals.
Ali Asghar Mounesan said in a meeting with the custodian of Astan, Quds Razavi, Hojjatoleslam Sheikh Ahmad Marvi that “the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) is the most valuable site in the country and the glory of Iranian Islamic art and architecture that has been neglected and should be registered worldwide, so we are trying to register this sacred place” as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
“Due to the richness of the “Pilgrimage of Imam Reza (AS)” and thanks to the follow-up efforts, the pilgrimage and pilgrimage walk to Imam Reza’s (AS) holy shrine have been registered on the list of National Cultural Heritage,” the minister added.
The holy shrine of the eighth Shia Imam is located in the Iranian holy city of Mashhad. The impressive architecture of the shrine and its courtyard fascinate every visitor upon arrival.
