Turkey Arrests Senior Gulenist
ANKARA (Xinhua) – A senior member of the Gulen movement is nabbed abroad and brought to Turkey in an operation by Turkish intelligence, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says.
The senior member Orhan Inandi was responsible for the group’s operations in Central Asia, Erdogan said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting.
The president also noted that over 100 members of the Gulen movement have been brought back to Turkey from abroad.
In early June, local media reported that Inandi disappeared in Kyrgyzstan where he had run Turkish-Kyrgyz schools.
The Turkish government accuses the Gulen movement of infiltrating into the state bureaucracy and then attempting a coup on July 15, 2016.
Ankara says U.S.-based preacher Fethullah Gulen was behind the coup attempt, in which 250 people were killed.
The Turkish government has launched a massive crackdown on suspects with links to the network in the aftermath of the coup attempt.
