Italy’s Literary Award Goes to Iranian Poet

TEHRAN (IBNA) -- Young Iranian poet Sajjad Qanavati received the top award of ALBO D’ORO 2021 ‎PREMIO ADAM MICKIEWICZ, an international literary contest in Italy.‎
The award aims to honor Adam Mickiewicz- an eminent Polish poet, dramatist, essayist, publicist, translator and political activist- and its 8th edition was recently held online.
Qanavati won the prize for his ‘Nel blu’ (My Little Sad Beloved) translated into Italian by Ghazal Qorbanpour. Poets from France and England received the second and third awards and a Russian poet was honored.
The award ceremony will also be held online in the format of video conference and the winners will recite their poems online.
Adam Bernard Mickiewicz who was also a publicist, translator and political activist is regarded as national poet in Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. A principal figure in Polish Romanticism, he is one of Poland’s “Three Bards” and is widely considered as Poland’s greatest poet.
