TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday touted what he called as his administration’s success in dealing with foreign sanctions in an unequal battle.
Rouhani asked his aides to provide the president-elect with necessary reports about the country’s economic situation and measures taken in recent years.
Rouhani said his administration’s main goal has been to contain fluctuations in the market and the prices of the basic commodities and inflation, and improve welfare of the masses.
“The administration has made every effort to supply foreign exchange for the provision of basic and necessary commodities and to maintain and boost domestic production the face of the enemies’ sanctions,” he said.
Ahead of the Friday elections, Rouhani had pleaded with the Iranian public to vote amid reports that some voters were deeply disappointed after his years in office which marked his administration’s mishandling of the economy.
“The way of expressing our complaints is not turning our backs on ballot boxes. ... Some may say that the situation has become so tough for us. I tell them to cast their votes despite the troubles,” Rouhani said. “Going to polling stations in present circumstances ... makes us more powerful.”
