Volleyballers Lose to Brazil, Slovenia at VNL 2021
TEHRAN – Iran suffered its fourth and fifth successive loss at the 2021 Volleyball Nations League (VNL).
Iran was defeated against Brazil 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21) at the 2021 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Wednesday night.
Iran’s Meysam Salehi scored 15 points and Souza Ricardo Lucarelli from Brazil finished with 20 points.
It was Iran’s sixth loss in the competition underway in Rimini, Italy.
Iran also was defeated against Slovenia 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 25-19, 32-30) on Week 4 on Thursday.
Čebulj Klemen registered 21 points for Slovenia and Meisam Salehi earned 17 points for Iran.
It was Iran’s seventh loss in the competition underway in Rimini, Italy.
The competition format is a single round robin pool with each of the 16 teams facing every other ahead of semifinals between the top four of the standings.
The semifinal winners will clash for the title, with the losers playing out for the bronze medal.
The tournament is being held in Rimini, Italy within a secure ‘bubble’ with all hygiene protocols in place to ensure the health and well-being of all athletes, officials and staff throughout the competition.
