Saudi Arabia Arrests 136 Employees on Corruption Charges

RIYADH (MEMO) – Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) has announced the arrest of 136 citizens and expatriates for their alleged involvement in corruption.
Nazaha said in a statement that the detainees include employees in the ministries of defense, interior, National Guard, health, justice, municipal and rural affairs, and housing and education.
The defendants face charges related to bribery, abuse of power, and forgery, it said.
The statement noted that during the month of Shawwal – which began on 12 May – the authority’s inspection teams have conducted 914 inspection visits and investigated 562 defendants in administrative and criminal cases which led to the arrest of 136 employees.
The authority revealed that legal procedures are being completed in preparation for their referral to the judiciary.
It called on the Saudi people “to protect and preserve public money and report any incidents of financial or administrative corruption” to the competent authorities.
