Yemeni Drone Targets Saudi Arabia’s Abha Airport

SANA’A (Dispatches) – Yemen on Monday launched a new drone attack at Saudi Arabia’s Abha airport in retaliation for Riyadh’s military aggression and its brutal blockade against the war-torn Arab country, the spokesman of the Yemeni armed forces said in a statement on Twitter.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said in on Monday afternoon that Yemeni army and allied fighters from Popular Committees used a domestically-manufactured Qasef-2K (Striker-2K) combat drone in the operation.
He stressed that the unmanned aerial vehicle struck with great precision the military targets at the airport.
He noted that the airstrike comes within Yemeni forces’ legitimate right to respond to the Saudi-led coalition’s air raids as well as its siege against their homeland.
Yemeni been targeting Saudi forces and military facilities in retaliatory attacks since the Saudi-led coalition launched a devastating war on its southern neighbor in 2015, backing former president Saudi-aligned Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
Abha Airport is one of the primary targets of the Yemeni forces, as they frequently launch explosive-laden drones at it.
Last month, Yemeni forces struck the city of Najran and a Saudi Aramco facility using drones and missiles.
More than a week ago, Yemen’s army troops and their allies carried out a drone strike on a major air base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern province of Asir.
They hit sensitive targets inside King Khalid Air base near the Saudi city of Khamis Mushait in the early hours of June 6, Brigadier General Saree tweeted at the time.
Separately on Monday, a civilian was injured in an artillery attack by the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen’s northwestern province of Sa’ada.
Local sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told al-Masirah TV that the victim sustained injuries as Saudi troops shelled areas in the Shada’a district of the province.
The Saudi war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead, and displaced millions more. The war has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases across the Arab country.
