Iran Imports Electricity From Azerbaijan

TEHRAN – The spokesman for Iran’s Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (Tavanir) Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said on Saturday the country has begun importing electricity from Azerbaijan Republic to alleviate electricity supply limitations.
Rajabi Mashhadi said that the electricity grid of Mughan in northwest Iran has been synchronized with that of Azerbaijan Republic so that 73 megawatts of electricity is injected to Iran’s power grid.
The imported electricity has the capacity to increase to 130 megawatts in the peak, he added.
Iran has leveraged the whole domestic power supply capacity, as the consumption is pushing the electricity generation capacity to its limits due to increasing demand in the summer.
He asked household consumers to manage their consumption, especially during the peak hours, in order to reduce the pressure on the power grid. Over 50 percent of consumption is allocated to household consumption in Iran.
