Children’s Writer Shortlisted For Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

TEHRAN (IBNA) -- Iranian author Hamid-Reza Shahabadi and bookmobiles of Center for the ‎Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (CIDCYA) have been introduced ‎by this center for the 2022 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA).‎
The announcement was made as Shahabadi and bookmobiles were also introduced to run for the award in the earlier edition of ALMA in 2021, public and international department of Center for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults reported.
The Institute for Research on History of Children’s Literature, Iran’s Children’s Book Council and the Iranian Association of Writers for Children and Youth are the three entities, which introduce the Iranian nominees.
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award at the amount of SEK 5,000,000 ($513,000) is given annually to a person or organization for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature.
The jury of the ALMA selects organizations and institutions with good knowledge of authors, illustrators, storytellers and activities that encourage reading in their countries or regions.
All countries are invited to nominate in order to promote their literature for young readers and to stimulate reading promotion. The jury and previous laureates also have the right to suggest candidates. No groups or individuals may apply or nominate themselves.
The award ceremony will be broadcast digitally from Stockholm tonight at 19.00 CET celebrating the 2020 and 2021 laureates Baek Heena and Jean-Claude Mourlevat will receive their prizes.
