Iranian Girl Makes History at Junior World Weightlifting Championships
TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Yekta Jamali has claimed Iran’s first-ever female weightlifter to win a world medal.
Jamali won Bronze medal at the 2021 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships, which was underway in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The 20-year-old girl lifted 92kg in snatch and 116kg in clean and jerk and won the bronze medal with a total of 208.
Tursunoy Jabborova from Uzbekistan seized the gold medal with 111-113-244 and Avery Owens Elizabeth from USA won the silver with 93-118-211.
Another Iranian girl Elnaz Bajalani had already finished in eighth place in the 76kg.
The 2021 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships started on May 23 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and wrapped up on May 31.
