Dehqan Drops Bid in Favor of Ayatollah Raisi
TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Former Defense Minister Brigadier General Hussein Dehqan on Monday dropped his bid to run for president in Iran’s June 18 election in favor of Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, the chief of the Judiciary. His decision came as Iran’s Constitutional Council prepared to release a final list of the candidates qualified to contest the upcoming presidential election, ending more than a week of intense guesswork about which hopefuls can secure the vetting body’s green light to run for president.
