VP Calls Non-Oil Exports Top Priority in Current Year
TEHRAN (Dispatches) - Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri in a meeting with the minister of industry, mine and trade, deputies and senior managers of the ministry has said that the country needs to focus on non-oil export in the current year as non-oil exports are the main and top priority of the government.
"Non-oil exports must be put on top of the agenda as a serious and determining issue. Although the government has budget confinements, it will support non-oil export,” Jahangiri said.
He said that export to neighboring countries is the government’s main aim, adding, "With the planning made in this regard, Iran should export $48 billion worth of non-oil goods to the neighbors by 2021.”
The official pointed to the economic recession in post-corona era and said, "If the country faces any decrease in export of petrochemical products and metals in post-corona period, we should be prepared for compensating shortfalls with more focusing on export of non-oil commodities and provide required currency resources.”
He continued that the government will support private sector and those who are active in import and export as forerunners in countering sanctions and coronavirus condition.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Friday called on Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh to expedite the production of petrochemicals and avoid the crude oil sell-off.
