Envoy to UN: U.S. Has Murdered 66 Iranian Children

UNITED NATIONS (Dispatches) -- Iran's ambassador to the UN has said the U.S. is directly responsible for the killing of 66 Iranian children.
"The U.S. is the murderer of 66 Iranian children, who were the passengers of the plane that the U.S. downed in the Persian Gulf in 1988," Gholamali Khoshroo told a UN Security Council meeting here on Thursday.
On July 3, 1988, U.S. Navy guided-missile cruiser the USS Vincennes fired missiles at an Iran Air Airbus which was flying over the Strait of Hormuz with 274 passengers and 16 crew, killing all on board.
Khoshroo reacted to remarks by outgoing U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley who had cited the case of Hussein Fahmideh, a 13-year-old Iranian student martyred during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-88), to allege that the Islamic Republic had recruited children to fight in Syria.
Khoshroo said the U.S. cannot use such remarks as a smokescreen for Tel Aviv's "brutal killing" of the Palestinian children.
"The U.S., whose envoy tried to act more catholic than the pope for Iranian children, should have said instead that a large number of Iranian children were martyred during the war by the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein with U.S. support," he said.
Khoshroo also said the U.S. cannot cover up the crimes Israel commits against the Palestinian children.
"The situation in Palestine is deteriorating. Only during the March of Return protests in Gaza, more than 200 have been martyred and 22,000 others injured as a result of Israeli violence," he said.
"The Israeli regime kills them because they are Palestinians, because it considers them not to be entitled to any rights, not even the right to live."
The Iranian ambassador said what the Palestinian protesters want is to return to their ancestral land and to form an independent Palestinian state.
"This is the consequence of 70 years of oppression against the Palestinians, which has continued as a result of U.S, support and the indifference of the Security Council," Khoshroo asserted.
The official reminded that the U.S. has vetoed 44 UN Security Council resolutions on Israel, while the occupying regime of regime itself has breached all the 300 resolutions that have so far been ratified against it.
"The regime is the number one violator of the Security Council's resolutions," he said.
