115 Bodies Unearthed From Mass Grave in Syria's Raqqah

DAMASCUS (Dispatches) – The Syrian authorities unearthed 115 bodies from a mass grave discovered in Syria's northern province of Raqqa, state news agency SANA reported.
The bodies are of civilians and soldiers killed by the Daesh terrorists, who had been controlling the city before their downfall late this year.
SANA said the Daesh killed those people in mid-2014 near the town of Dibsi Afnan in the southern countryside of Raqqa and left their bodies out in the open before the locals buried them overnight.
Another mass grave was also discovered, SANA said, adding that work is underway to dig out all the bodies.
The Syrian army captured Dibsi Afnan and other areas in July, before the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured the capital city of Raqqa in October.
The Daesh lost all its strongholds in the eastern province of Day al-Zawr and witnessed a near collapse in 2017.
The Syrian authorities are inspecting the areas once controlled by the Daesh to unveil more atrocities committed by the terrorist group.
The developments in Syria comes a day after an Iraqi legislator said search teams have found a mass grave in the country’s northern province of Nineveh containing the bodies of dozen members of Izadi minority, who are believed to have been executed by Daesh terrorists when they were in control of an area there.
Haji Kendor told Arabic-language al-Ghad Press news agency that the mass grave contains the bodies of 80 elderly and disabled women and is located near the town of Sinjar, situated over 400 kilometers northwest of the capital Baghdad.
Kendor added some of the victims had been buried alive, noting that Daesh terrorists buried the Izadi women inside in a fish farm, and the grisly discovery was made by local search teams.
Back in August 2014, Daesh terrorists overran the town of Sinjar, killing, raping, and enslaving large numbers of Izadi Kurds.
The region was recaptured in November 2015, during an operation by Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Izadi fighters.
