Official: Iran to Launch New Gas Projects

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – The CEO of the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) has said the company is launching new gas transmission projects across Iran that will facilitate the country's international gas trade.
Hassan Montazer Torbati said the required infrastructure for completing the gas distribution network within the Iranian territory has been prepared, making the country ready for boosting gas trade with international customers.
"Given the fact that Iran enjoys the world's largest proven gas reserves and its geographical advantages for being close to major gas producers and consumers, it can turn into a major hub for gas trade in the world," the official added.
He said the gas distribution network in Iran will be complete within the next 5 years, adding once the project is complete new trade arenas will be open to Iran.
In November, CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said the country’s exports of natural gas to Iraq will increase during the spring and summer of 2018.
Tehran and Baghdad signed a deal on the exports of natural gas from the giant South Pars Gas Field in 2013. Under the deal, the Iranian gas is delivered to Sadr, Baghdad and al-Mansouryah power plants in Iraq through a 270-kilometer pipeline.
"If necessary we will be able to receive gas from countries like Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Qatar and send it to Pakistan, Kuwait, Iraq, Turkey or even Europe," he added.
