Iran Win Asian Wrestling Championships
TEHRAN (Dispatches) - The Iranian men's national freestyle wrestling team won the title of the Asian Senior Wrestling Championships in India, having collected third gold medals, at the continental sporting event.
Iran's 125-kg wrestler Yadollah Mohebi defeated the Indian wrestler Sumit 6-2 to win the third gold medal for Iran.
Earlier, Mohebi had defeated Chinese, Mongolian South Korean rivals to reach the final match.
And also, Iran's 61-kg wrestler Behnam Ehsanpour managd to take the first gold medal for the Islamic Republic in the tournament, after he defeated his North Korean rival, Han Sang 8-6 at the final contest.
In 70-kg category, Hamed Rashidi, who lost in semifinals 0-10 to Gyon-woo Lee from South Korea, was able to defeat Tajikistan's Gholam Sharpov with the same technical point to earn a bronze.
Earlier, other Iranian wrestler, Reza Ahmadali Atrinagharchi overwhelmed Sunggwon Kim from South Korea 5-4 and won the bronze.
In the 65-kilogram division, Meisam Abolfazl Nasiri clinched another bronze medal for the Iranian team, while Bahman Mohammad Teymouri beat Tsubasa Asai from Japan 10-0 by technical fall, and received a bronze medal in the 74-kilogram weight category.
Moreover, Hossein Lotfali Shahbazigazvar was defeated 4-6 by Uzbek opponent Magomed Idrisovitch Ibragimov, to pocket only a silver medal for Iran in the 97-kilogram category.
The Asian Senior Wrestling Championships kicked off in New Delhi on May 10, and wrapped up with Iran championship in the tournament on May 14.
The tournament had brought together dozens of male and female freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers from various Asian countries, including China, Chinese Taipei, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Korea, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
