Iran Condemns Saudi Airstrikes on Yemen as War Crimes

TEHRAN -- Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday strongly condemned Saudi-led airstrikes on civilian infrastructure and residential areas in Yemen, describing the attacks as “war crimes” and calling for an immediate halt to military operations and a complete end to the blockade.
In a statement released Sunday, the ministry reaffirmed Iran’s “principled position” against violations of Yemen’s national sovereignty and territorial
integrity, saying the continued aggression and the economic and aerial blockade imposed on the country “run counter to international law and Islamic teachings”.
The statement specifically condemned the Nov. 6 airstrike on the al-Hadara public market in the al-Waziiya district of Ta’izz Province, which it said killed 33 innocent Yemenis, including 13 children, and wounded dozens of others.
It also denounced an airstrike on Al-Shariyah village in Bani Hushaysh district, east of Sana’a Province, which killed 33 people, including several women and children, as well as the targeting of Al-Masirah television crew members while they were carrying out journalistic activities.
The ministry said the attacks “flagrantly violate Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, and constitute war crimes” .
Iran also stressed that the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen must end as soon as possible through dialogue between the parties based on their agreed roadmap. It said this requires an immediate halt to military attacks, a complete end to the blockade, and respect for the Yemeni people’s right to self-determination.
