CEO: Petrochemical Industry Working to Optimize Gas Use in Other Sectors
TEHRAN - The managing director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), stressing the importance of optimizing energy consumption and securing gas supply for industry, said that beyond optimization projects within the petrochemical sector itself, the industry is also running initiatives under the “Energy Pulse” (Nabz-e Energy) campaign to optimize gas consumption in other sectors.
Omid Shakeri said that this year a memorandum of understanding for the campaign’s third year has been signed between NPC and the Shiraz and Pardis petrochemical companies.
Noting that the petrochemical industry ranks at the top of vital industries because it supplies the feedstock its complexes need, he said that optimizing gas consumption in other sectors can contribute significantly to sustaining production in the industry.
The deputy oil minister recalled that one aim of the campaign is for people to reduce their gas consumption through simple measures that do not compromise their comfort, so that industry, in turn, has more gas available to maintain its production cycle.
Shakeri said that successful gas optimization projects can raise gross domestic product and generate benefits that reach all citizens. He stressed that continued petrochemical production is of strategic importance to the country, since its products are tied to people’s daily lives and since pension funds, as shareholders in petrochemical companies, also benefit from uninterrupted output.
Referring to the emphasis of the government and the president on optimizing consumption, he said the president has likewise underlined that greater savings and public encouragement should free up more energy for industry, including petrochemicals.
The NPC chief expressed hope that, through the synergy created within the Oil Ministry between NPC and the National Iranian Gas Company, and by drawing on the capacity of other organizations and NGOs, the campaign’s planned goals will be achieved and the petrochemical production cycle will be sustained.
More than 520,000 subscribers have registered for the Energy Pulse campaign to date. Over 12 billion tomans from resources generated through managed gas has been allocated to public-benefit and charitable activities, and roughly 250 billion tomans in cash prizes and energy-related equipment has been awarded to participants. Citizens can join the campaign at nabzenergy.ir and benefit from the substantial prizes on offer. In the campaign’s third year, 600 billion tomans in incentive prizes are to be awarded to participants.
