Vehicle Carrying Contract Engineers Attacked in Saravan
TEHRAN -- A vehicle carrying contract engineers in the border district of Saravan in Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan province was attacked by unidentified gunmen, with the assailants fleeing the scene and no immediate claim of responsibility.
According to Tasnim news agency, the attack was “most likely” carried out by mercenary elements of the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, which has repeatedly targeted development projects in the region.
The report described the vehicle as belonging to contract engineers working in the Saravan border area.
Engineers and contracting staff working in various parts of the province are part of the government’s development and construction projects, and targeting such personnel could affect the implementation of projects and economic activity in the region.
Last week, an Iranian border guard was martyred in a terrorist attack on a patrol in the Nusratabad area, also in Sistan-Baluchestan.
