UK Navy, Air Force Declared ‘Terrorist Organizations’, MI6 ‘Hostile Group’
TEHRAN -- Iran’s Foreign Ministry designated Britain’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as “terrorist organizations” and MI6 as a “hostile group” on Sunday, in retaliation for London’s July designation of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and for British participation in the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.
The ministry said the measures took effect on November 1, 2026, and were taken under a resolution by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The statement cited the Law on Countermeasures Against the Declaration of the IRGC as a Terrorist Organization and the Law on Intensification of Penalties for Espionage and Collaboration with the Zionist Regime and Hostile States Against National Security and Interests.
“As of the publication of this statement, the UK’s foreign intelligence service (MI6) is designated as a hostile group,” the ministry said, adding that the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force “are hereby designated as terrorist organizations” under the countermeasures law.
The ministry took aim at Britain for participating in the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran by providing the aggressors access to military bases and military and logistical facilities located within territories under British jurisdiction.
It condemned Britain’s policies as contrary to the principles of the UN Charter and international law, particularly respect for national sovereignty and the prohibition of unlawful actions against other countries.
The statement said the blacklisting came in accordance with international law and within the framework of the principle of reciprocity, and reaffirmed the Iranian government’s determination to take necessary measures to safeguard its national security and interests. It added that the British government would be responsible for any consequences.
The designations follow a pattern of reciprocal legal measures by Iran in recent months, including its designation of U.S. military assets in the region as legitimate targets in the event of a new war.
