Judiciary Chief Orders Swift Handling of Espionage, Treason Cases
TEHRAN -- Iran’s judiciary chief said on Saturday that cases against traitors openly “selling the homeland” and providing intelligence to an “aggressive enemy” must be resolved with greater speed and the utmost precision and justice.
“The cases of elements who acted against the country and the system and openly sold the homeland and gave intelligence to the aggressive enemy must be resolved with the greatest possible speed, of course in accordance with the law and with the utmost precision and justice,” Gholamhussein Mohseni-Ejei said, referring to espionage cases and individuals cooperating with the enemy.
Mohseni-Ejei said the handling of cases involving “self-sold mercenaries” who colluded with foreigners and targeted national security must be carried out with full firmness, deterrent speed and precise adherence to legal and just standards, “so that no opening remains for security corrupters to operate.”
Judiciary spokesman Ali Kazemi said earlier in October that 250 cases had been opened involving 1,895 traitors collaborating with Israel or other hostile states, including 94 employees of enemy media outlets.
