TEHRAN - Iran and Senegal have emphasized expanding bilateral cooperation in sports, youth affairs and culture during a meeting between Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth Ahmad Donyamali and Senegalese Government Spokesperson Bakary Sarr in Dakar.
The meeting was held on Friday on the sidelines of Donyamali’s visit to Senegal to attend the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games, with Iran’s Ambassador to Senegal Asgari also in attendance.
Sarr welcomed the Iranian minister, condemned the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, and offered condolences over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Highlighting the importance of sports and Senegal’s hosting of the Youth Olympic Games, Sarr said the Senegalese government was ready at the highest levels to expand cooperation with Iran in the fields of sports and youth affairs.
Donyamali thanked the Senegalese government for its expression of sympathy and congratulated Senegal on hosting the Games, calling the event an honor for the country and the African continent. He also stressed the importance of countries’ independence and nations’ right to self-determination.
Referring to President Masoud Pezeshkian’s government policy of expanding relations with African countries, Donyamali called for broader cultural, sports and youth cooperation between the two countries and invited the Senegalese government spokesperson to visit Iran.
