Leader Sets Out Priorities for Security, Economy, War Strategy
In a meeting with Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, Ayatollah Khamenei stresses coordinated action across political, economic, cultural and security affairs, protection of national interests and regional security, and an end to the current neither-war-nor-peace situation.
TEHRAN -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei told the secretary of the country's Supreme National Security Council on Tuesday that a complete "roadmap" must underpin every decision "from its starting point to its conclusion," his office said.
Mohsen Rezaei, who has led the SNSC secretariat since his appointment earlier this year, briefed Ayatollah Khamenei on the country's security situation and ongoing efforts.
The meeting was announced a day after Rezaei hosted the defense minister of Saudi Arabia, the army chief of Pakistan and the intelligence chief of Turkiye in Tehran — the first high-level contact between Iran and the three members of the Makkah defense pact.
Ayatollah Khamenei described the security council and its secretariat as a "crossroads" for state affairs, stressing that decisions in the four domains of culture, politics, economy and security must be accompanied by appropriate complementary measures.
He also called for using the constitution, particularly Article 176, to assist the president and executive bodies in resolving the country's problems, safeguarding national and regional security through management of the Strait of Hormuz, and consolidating ties with neighboring countries on the basis of sustainable mutual interests.
The Leader said the adversary's desperation is a product of national resistance and stressed the need for active and timely public information efforts to sustain public participation in defending the country.
He called for pursuing the rights of the Iranian nation and the "resistance front" through the fulfillment of conditions set by officials, aiming to end the war and the current "neither war, nor peace" situation.
The audience was the third with a senior official reported in a week. Parliament Speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf met Ayatollah Khamenei on Oct. 21 and Judiciary Chief Gholamhussein Mohseni Ejei on Oct. 24. Both men have since described the Leader in full health and in command.
Speaking in parliament after the meeting, Ghalibaf said: "The Leader is in excellent health." He described what stood out in the meeting as Ayatollah Khamenei's "strong, energetic, hopeful and resolute spirit, as well as his peace of mind," adding that "when I spoke with the Leader, these qualities were clearly evident in him".
Ghalibaf said the meeting covered economic indicators, with Ayatollah Khamenei stressing that figures should be neither overestimated nor underestimated.
He said Ayatollah Khamenei had for the third time pressed him on securing production chains — covering raw materials, production cycles and essential goods — and on preserving purchasing power, particularly for the armed forces and fighters on the front lines.
Ghalibaf also said the discussion addressed military affairs, the war and the Resistance Front, diplomacy and negotiations, and economic warfare including economic pressure and a naval blockade. He said Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that "the key to victory is unity in word and deed".
Ejei, speaking at the Supreme Judicial Council, said he and Ayatollah Khamenei reviewed the powers delegated to the heads of the three branches and whether those authorities remained in place.
He said Ayatollah Khamenei "was well-informed about various issues" and receives information "through different channels, not just one specific channel".
Ejei said Ayatollah Khamenei urged sincere service to the people, attention to all segments of society, resolving people's problems and increasing social capital.
"Listening to people's views and concerns and standing alongside them is a fundamental principle," Ejei quoted the Leader as saying.
Ejei said Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that cases involving corruption, individuals seeking to undermine security, or those who knowingly or unknowingly impose additional pressure on the economy and livelihoods "must be handled swiftly and thoroughly, in accordance with the law and without discrimination."
He said Khamenei also stressed that "not even the slightest corruption" should be allowed to emerge within government institutions, and that matters that cannot be corrected must be dealt with "firmly".
