‘No Talks With U.S. Before Iran’s Conditions Are Met’

TEHRAN - An Iranian lawmaker has warned that Tehran will not reach an agreement with the United States unless its seven conditions are met, adding that any renewed aggression against Iran would trigger a stronger response with consequences across the region.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television on Monday.
Iran has conveyed its conditions to the United States through mediators as part of efforts to resolve the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.
The Islamic Republic closed the strategic waterway following the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28. According to Boroujerdi, Iran and the United States agreed in June to a 60-day period for reopening the strait under a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding. He said, however, that U.S. violations forced Tehran to reinstate the closure.
Tehran has previously outlined several conditions for reopening the waterway, including an end to aggression on all fronts, the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade, the removal of sanctions and the unfreezing of Iranian assets.
Boroujerdi said Iran would impose stricter conditions if Washington resumed its attacks. He also claimed that Iran’s missile stockpile had increased by “more than 50 percent” and ruled out giving up the country’s enriched uranium.
“Some parties in Iran believe there is no point in adhering to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty if the United States does not abide by it,” he said.
