Eslami Briefs Parliament: 11,000 Radioactive Sites Active Across Iran

TEHRAN -- Iran’s parliament national security committee said on Sunday that 11,000 radioactive centers are operating across the country, with more than 60,000 personnel working directly with radioactive materials, according to a presentation by the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
Hassan Qashqavi, spokesman for the committee, told reporters after the session that AEOI chief Muhammad Eslami on Sunday briefed members on the latest developments in the nuclear industry, including safety measures and the threats facing the program.
Qashqavi said members stressed that the nuclear industry is “the pride of the country and the life of the people,” citing directives from martyred Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and called for greater public explanation of nuclear achievements to elites and the younger generation, who he said are exposed to the enemy’s psychological warfare.
According to Eslami’s figures presented to the committee, 11,000 centers across Iran operate with radioactive materials and radiation-generating sources, and more than 60,000 people work directly with radioactive substances in various sectors.
Committee members emphasized that the nuclear industry is as essential to daily life as air and water in fields such as medicine and agriculture, and said its development should be expanded across all applications. They expressed readiness to cooperate with the AEOI, particularly in areas directly linked to people’s livelihoods.
