Has the UN Outlived Its Purpose

It is now 81 years since the victorious powers of the Second World War, along with a few European countries, formed what they called a world body, and named it the United Nations Organization (UNO).
In the next few years, many world nations, freed from the yoke of colonialism, joined it, but none of them except for the five founding members, were granted the veto power.
The veto is indeed a questionable power, not granted as a counter check for the rivalry amongst the big powers. It is in fact a tool of domination of big powers to kill the resolutions in favour of non-aligned and truly independent countries.
The past eight decades, beginning with the tension-packed atmosphere of the Cold War saw the Eastern bloc led by the Soviet Union and the Western bloc led by the US, exploiting the UN for continuation of their proxy wars, although they were extra careful not to indulge in direct confrontation that could have resulted in a nuclear catastrophe.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, which in 1979 emerged as a truly independent country and neither aligned to the West nor to the East, was unfortunately a victim of lack of justice or impartiality of the UN.
For over a decade, even after the end of the eight-year war imposed by the US upon Iran through its agent Saddam of the repressive Ba’ath minority regime of Baghdad, no UN Security Council resolution was passed identifying or condemning the aggressor.
Iran’s victimization by the UN is clear in case of the nuclear project as well. In spite of the confirmation of Iran’s nuclear project as civilian, the country was subjected to US engineered UN sanctions.
The plight of the Palestinians and their never-ending misery is also proof of the inadequacy of the UN to find solution for their sufferings, let alone denouncing the illegal Zionist entity.
Presently the case of the two US-Israeli imposed wars upon Iran is crystal clear to everybody. The UN has not criticized the aggression of these two criminal regimes.
To sum up, the Free World has to decide in view of these and other glaring examples whether or not the UN should be called a truly representative world body.
