German Ambassador Summoned Over ‘Baseless Accusations’
TEHRAN -- Iran summoned Germany’s ambassador to Tehran on Monday and issued a sharp protest over “baseless accusations” by German officials after Berlin summoned Iran’s envoy over a court ruling that convicted two men of plotting attacks on Jewish and pro-Israeli figures on behalf of Iranian intelligence.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned German ambassador Axel Dittmann in response, with Alireza Yousefi, the deputy minister and director-general for Western Europe, conveying Tehran’s “strong protest” over the “vile approach” of some German officials toward Iran.
Yousefi said the leveling of security accusations against Iran is a longstanding tactic of the Israeli regime and some Western states, and that giving judicial cover to “baseless political claims” will only discredit Germany’s judiciary.
He further told Dittmann that Berlin’s accusations are an attempt to deflect from Germany’s own responsibility for its participation in the U.S.-Israeli military aggression against Iran, and that this will not deter Iran from pursuing Germany’s international responsibility for complicity in war crimes. Dittmann said he will convey the message to his government.
