Tehran, Doha Discuss Energy Cooperation

TEHRAN – Iran’s Caretaker Oil Minister, Hamid Bovard, met with Qatar’s energy minister, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, in Doha on Monday to discuss energy ties and cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place October 19 in the Qatari capital, according to Qatar’s Ministry of Energy.
Bilateral energy relations and cooperation between Tehran and Doha were among the main topics of the talks, the ministry said.
Iran and Qatar share the South Pars-North Field, the world’s largest natural gas field, which lies beneath the Persian Gulf and forms the foundation of both countries’ gas industries. The two countries are major natural gas producers, with Iran developing the South Pars section and Qatar exploiting the North Field to support its liquefied natural gas exports. Cooperation between Tehran and Doha on energy-related issues is strategically significant given their shared resource, the importance of natural gas to regional energy markets and the potential for dialogue on field development and broader energy-sector coordination.
The two countries have also held high-level discussions on expanding economic and energy cooperation. In December 2024, Iranian and Qatari officials met in Doha for the tenth session of their joint committee, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral ties and diversify cooperation across several sectors.
