Iraqi Resistance Vows to Fight if Iran Faces Existential Threat
BAGHDAD -- An Iraqi resistance group said on Sunday it would fight alongside Iran if a U.S.-Israeli war threatened the Islamic Republic’s existence, as senior Iranian officials warned that any new aggression would be met with a response governed by unfamiliar rules and a plan more destructive than previous confrontations.
“If Iran faces a genuine threat to its existence, we will certainly participate in that battle,” Abu Ala al-Walai, secretary-general of Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, said.
“If the threat is not existential, however, we will not participate, as we demonstrated during the recent war against Iran.”
Walai described the relationship between the Iraqi resistance and Tehran as “historical and religious,” saying Iran provided “logistical support, training, and weapons” during the war against Daesh.
“Our blood has mingled on the same battlefields and in the same trench,” he said.
The pledge came as Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said on X that “repeated delusional rhetoric and threats by American and [Israeli] officials in recent days will not change the reality on the ground.”
He added: “Iran’s new operational plan will not proceed according to the rules they are familiar with.” Iranian media said the plan would be “more destructive” than those used in the 12-day and 40-day wars.
Brigadier General Alireza Sheikh, the army’s deputy chief for executive affairs, said the armed forces are fully prepared, describing Iranians as the “father of all bombs” in response to reports that Washington could consider using the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, known as the “Mother of All Bombs.”
“The enemy cannot achieve its goals against such a nation; for civilization cannot be blown up by a bomb,” he said, adding that the army’s “finger is on the trigger.”
Parliament Speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a separate warning to regional governments and investment funds, saying a “Persian Gulf Data Authority” is being established and urging them to provide “no resources to any AI or data company aiding invasions or killing children. No finance, equity, land and energy.”
He added: “Assist them and face our enforcement.”
Deputy Parliament Speaker Hamid Reza Haji Babaei said the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have acted as “regional contractors” for Israel and warned that “the smallest mistake by regional countries in assisting the U.S. and the Zionist regime will bring about the tragic tale of life and death for their incompetent rulers.”
He reiterated that Iran will maintain its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
