Official: Dogharoun Accounts for 52% of Cargo Transit to Afghanistan
TEHRAN – The Dogharoun border terminal accounts for 52 percent of cargo transit to Afghanistan through four border crossings in Iran’s northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province, according to a local official.
Mohsen Rokni, head of the Dogharoun border terminal, said on Sunday that the facility ranked first in cargo transit among the province’s border crossings during the first six months of the current Iranian year that started on March 21.
Dogharoun also handled 70 percent of Iran’s exports to Afghanistan during the period, making it the country’s main export gateway to its eastern neighbor, he added.
Major Iranian exports included construction materials, steel, food, fresh produce and petroleum products, according to the official.
He said that Dogharoun accounted for 34 percent of imports into Khorasan Razavi Province, ranking second after Sarakhs.
