Turkey Seizes Opposition Broadcaster Halk TV, Detains 11
ISTANBUL (Dispatches) -- Turkish police raided Halk TV’s Istanbul headquarters before dawn Wednesday, halting broadcasts and installing a government trustee as 11 people were detained in a bribery and money-laundering probe.
Opposition leader Ozgur Ozel called the takeover “something only dictators do,” noting it coincided with jailed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu presenting his defense in a graft trial.
