Israeli Forces Abduct Young Syrian in Quneitra; Airstrikes, Artillery Hit Lebanon

DAMASCUS/BEIRUT (Dispatches) -- Israeli forces conducted abduction and demolition operations in Syrian territory on Tuesday while pressing airstrikes and artillery shelling against Lebanese towns.
In southern Syria, Israeli forces abducted a young Syrian man during an incursion into the village of Briqa in the Quneitra countryside late Monday, releasing him Tuesday without explanation, according to Syria’s Al-Ikhbariya.
The incursion involved four military vehicles, house searches, and drone flights over the area before the detainee was taken into the occupied Golan Heights.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights separately reported that Israeli forces detonated abandoned military fortifications in the Beit Jinn farm area of the western Damascus countryside, opening fire to prevent farmers from reaching their agricultural lands.
A patrol also advanced into the area north of Kudna in Quneitra, searching homes without reporting kidnaps.
The incursions follow a documented pattern. A day earlier, Israeli troops abducted three youths grazing sheep west of Saida al-Golan in Quneitra, and on October 5 shot dead 20-year-old Muhammad Ayman al-Dabour near the village of Hamidiya, claiming he attempted to cross into occupied territory.
On October 7, Israeli forces shot and wounded a disabled Syrian in Jibata al-Khashab before detaining him.
UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Claudio Cordone told the Security Council on Monday that Israeli offensives in southern Syria continue daily, citing construction activities, checkpoints, searches, arrests, and the lethal shooting of a civilian. He noted 49 Syrian nationals are reportedly held in Israeli detention.
The Security Council session saw members condemn the Israeli attacks and demand respect for Syria’s sovereignty, though the United States backed Israel and called only for dialogue between Damascus and Tel Aviv.
In Lebanon, Israeli warplanes struck the Salouqi valley targeting woodland near the town of Shaqra, while artillery shelled al-Mansouri and Israeli forces conducted sweeping machine-gun fire in the eastern town of Zawtar.
The attacks continued despite a disgraceful U.S.-brokered framework agreement signed in June obliging Israel to virtually nothing.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported airstrikes on Kfar Tebnit in Nabatieh and Mansouri in Tyre district, with Majdal Zoun coming under artillery fire. Two men were killed in southern Lebanon on Sunday, one by Israeli fire and another by unexploded ordnance.
The ongoing Israeli atrocities in Lebanon have killed 4,386 people and wounded 12,413 since military operations resumed on March 2, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
Despite claims of a diplomatic framework worked by the weak Lebanese government, Israeli forces continue to occupy a 10-kilometer strip along the border and maintain positions seized in recent operations.
Within Syria’s internal security landscape, the so-called Internal Security Forces of de facto president Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, a former Daesh and Al-Qaeda deputy, arrested two individuals in the Qardaha countryside on the coast for hiding weapons and ammunition, including Kalashnikov rifles, bombs, and RPG shells.
The arrests follow last Friday’s dismantling of a Daesh-linked cell in the Homs countryside, where a member was caught attempting to bomb a railway track.
