Iraqi Airways Resumes Flights to Iran Following 7-Month Suspension
TEHRAN - Iraq’s national carrier, Iraqi Airways, has resumed its direct flights to Iran following a seven-month suspension triggered by the outbreak of the U.S. and Israeli military aggression against the country in early March.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the airline announced on Thursday that regular daily flights will now operate from Najaf International Airport to the Iranian cities of Tehran, Mashhad, and Isfahan.
The company stated that the resumption of flights was achieved through the efforts of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and Transport Minister Wahab al-Hasani, following the completion of all necessary legal and technical requirements.
The airline added that reopening these routes aims to facilitate passenger travel and expand Iraq’s regional air connectivity, particularly for pilgrimage, medical treatment, and educational purposes.
Based on a report by Anadolu Agency, Iraqi Airways halted its flights to Iran in early March as a precautionary measure following the onset of the U.S. and Israeli military offensive against Iran on February 28. Iraq had also closed its airspace concurrent with the escalation of military tensions in the region.
