Putin to Meet Pezeshkian in Turkmenistan on Friday

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenistan on Friday, on the sidelines of the CIS summit, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov announced Tuesday.
The meeting, confirmed by Russian state news agency RIA Novosti and TASS, will focus on bilateral cooperation and the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
Ushakov said the two leaders would hold talks after the conclusion of all main CIS events in the Turkmen coastal zone of Avaza.
The Kremlin aide noted that Putin and Pezeshkian last met in early September on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek. That meeting, which lasted over two hours, saw Pezeshkian express gratitude for Russia’s support during the war and under U.S. sanctions.
“This support shows that relations between the two countries are not ordinary ties, but strategic relations based on shared interests and mutual concerns,” Pezeshkian said during the September meeting.
Putin, for his part, said Moscow had “repeatedly warned the United States and Israel that a military solution against Iran had no prospect of success”. He added that “the Russian people express their solidarity with the Iranian people, who are defending their interests”.
Pezeshkian will participate for the first time in an expanded CIS Heads of State Council meeting and will also address the Caspian Ecological Summit, according to Ushakov. The meeting with Putin is scheduled to take place after all summit events conclude on Friday.
