Tehran, Doha to Form Joint Task Force to Follow Up on Bilateral Agreements

TEHRAN - Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni says Iran and Qatar would form a joint task force between their interior ministries to follow up on decisions and agreements reached during recent meetings.
Momeni made the remarks after meeting Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Tuesday, where he said the two sides held “good and constructive” talks on issues of organized crime, coast guard cooperation, security matters, and combating drug trafficking.
Interior Minister Eskandar added negotiations have already been held over the Iranian pilots and that it has been agreed that a technical delegation would return to Qatar to continue the discussions.
“Negotiations were held regarding the Iranian pilots, and it was decided that the technical delegation would visit again and hold meetings to continue the work,” he said.
He added that an expert-level security meeting would be held immediately after the Iranian delegation’s visit and that such meetings would continue.
The Iranian interior minister also described discussions on expanding trade relations between the two countries as constructive.
Momeni underscored the importance Iran attaches to Qatar and neighboring countries, saying regionalism and good-neighborly relations were Iran’s “definitive policy.”
Regional security, he maintained, is interconnected and should be ensured through cooperation among regional countries.
