TEHRAN - Iran’s national roller ski team has secured a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in China.
The Iranian team made a brilliant start in the competition. In the 200m super-sprint event, the team claimed a bronze medal in the men’s category, recorded the fastest time in the women’s category, and saw both of its female athletes finish among the top eight in Asia.
In the men’s division, Alireza Nazarizadeh advanced through the knockout stages to the final, where he finished third and brought home the bronze medal for the country.
Danial Saveh-Shemshaki, Iran’s other athlete, finished 18th in Asia with a time of 25.70 seconds.
In the women’s division, Atefeh Salehi clocked a time of 26.65 seconds—the fastest among all 21 competitors—and advanced to the next rounds as a top contender for the title. Salehi reached the semi-finals but, despite her impressive performance in her first-ever Asian competition at this level, missed out on a spot in the final. Nevertheless, recording the fastest time of the event in her Asian debut promises a bright future for her and for women’s roller skiing in Iran.
Sahel Tir, Iran’s other female national team member, also advanced to the semi-finals, placing among the top eight athletes in Asia; thus, both of Iran’s female representatives made it into the continent’s top eight during their debut appearance.
