Israeli Forces Kill Man in Southern Syria as Incursions Intensify

DAMASCUS (Dispatches) --
Israeli forces shot and killed a man in southern Syria early Monday, the military said, as occupation troops continued a wave of incursions across the country’s south and west, and sectarian violence persisted elsewhere under the government of former Al-Qaeda and Daesh commander Abu Muhammad al-Jolani.
The Israeli military claimed the man attempted to enter one of its military posts in what it calls a “security zone” in southern Syria. Troops opened fire and killed him. The statement provided no details about the man’s identity or whether he was armed.
The killing came amid a broader Israeli escalation across Syrian territory. In the western Damascus countryside on Monday, Israeli forces, backed by multiple military vehicles, entered an abandoned military position between Beit Jinn farm and the town of Beit Jinn and detonated it.
Earlier Sunday, Israeli troops raided the village of Al-Asbah in Quneitra, searching homes and firing illumination rounds over the surrounding agricultural areas. Israeli reconnaissance aircraft intensified flights over the region.
Syria’s Foreign Ministry condemned the violations, describing Israel’s continued aggression as a direct threat to regional security and a blatant breach of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Meanwhile, internal violence has continued unabated. On Monday, two armed men were killed by unidentified gunmen in the eastern countryside of Tartus.
The incident follows a string of deadly shootings across government-held areas in recent days, including an attack on a vehicle near Masyaf on September 30 that killed seven people and wounded four.
The violence occurs against a backdrop of systematic sectarian targeting under Jolani’s rule. Since his takfiri regime took power in December 2024, religious minorities — Alawites, Christians, and Druze — have faced repeated massacres.
In March 2025, takfiri extremists and regime-linked security forces killed over 1,600 Alawite civilians across Syria’s coast. Similar attacks targeted Druze communities in Suwayda in July 2025.
The Suqaylabiyah assault on October 3, in which armed men from Qalaat al-Madiq attacked Christian-owned shops and wounded a woman, marked the latest episode in this campaign.
Jolani, a former leader of Al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate and later head of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, has relied on foreign takfiri commanders for senior military positions, including the Republican Guard, according to West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center.
His government continues to enjoy backing from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Turkey despite the documented atrocities.
