Flights Between Iran and Iraq to Restart Today

TEHRAN -- Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization announced Saturday that flights between Iran and Iraq will resume starting Sunday, operated jointly by Iranian and Iraqi airlines, following a decision by senior officials of both countries.
Abouzar Shiroudi, head of the Civil Aviation Organization, said the decision was made at the level of senior authorities of the two countries, and that flights between Iran and Iraq will resume from Sunday by both Iranian and Iraqi carriers.
Shiroudi urged passengers to check the latest status
and timing of their flights through the official channels of the relevant airline or the flight information services of their departure airport before heading to the airport.
The Civil Aviation Organization’s public relations office said Shiroudi advised passengers to purchase tickets for Najaf Ashraf through airline websites and reputable ticketing platforms, and to ensure their flight is confirmed and its timing verified before departing for the airport.
The resumption of Iran-Iraq flights follows weeks of disruption tied to regional tensions. On September 30, Iraq’s Prime Minister’s press office confirmed that Iranian airlines had been permitted to resume flights to Najaf, with an exemption allowing 40 daily flights for Iranian carriers to and from the airport.
The Al-Nujaba Movement announced the reopening of Najaf Airport and the cancellation of a planned indefinite sit-in on Saturday, with Sheikh Nazim Al-Saidi, head of the movement’s executive council, saying the decision followed successful efforts by sit-in participants and expressing gratitude to the masses for their “responsible stance” rooted in Iraqi sovereignty.
He warned, however, that if the U.S. blockade against Iraqi airports continues, the Iraqi people would not hesitate to launch a “stronger popular storm.”
