TEHRAN - Flights 
between Iranian airports and the Iraqi holy city of Najaf have officially resumed, according to Iraq’s state news agency.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported that Iraqi Airways has restarted its flight operations connecting Najaf to destinations in Iran.
Meanwhile, Reuters noted that a recent U.S. waiver facilitated the resumption of travel to and from Iran via the Iraqi national carrier.
The development follows earlier remarks by the Iraqi ambassador to Tehran, who had anticipated the restoration of the Najaf-Iran air route within 24 hours.
The temporary suspension of flights between the two neighboring countries had previously sparked strong backlash and widespread protests among the Iraqi public.
