TEHRAN – Foreign Minister 
Abbas Araghchi said Iran’s positions have not changed, stressing that the Strait of Hormuz can reopen only after conditions set by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Husseini Khamenei are fulfilled.
Speaking to reporters in New York, Araghchi said his intensive UN trip included numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings with foreign officials, UN representatives, international organizations, media and think tanks, with the aim of conveying Iran’s positions and defending the interests of the Iranian people.
He said the meetings showed that, contrary to efforts by the U.S. and Israeli regime to portray Iran as isolated, many countries remain interested in dialogue with Tehran and express respect for Iran’s resistance.
Araghchi said another key objective was to explain Iran’s position on the war, particularly the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that “conditions from the Leader” must be fulfilled for the strait to reopen, adding that Iran has presented its seven-point proposal to the U.S. through Qatari mediation as a possible path toward meeting those conditions.
He noted that a Qatari mediator met with the Iranian side again on Sunday to discuss ideas for facilitating their implementation, and would convey them to the US before transmitting Washington’s final response to Tehran.
Araghchi added that communications involving Qatari and Pakistani mediators have already been underway but have become more serious following Iran’s proposal. He categorically rejected reports suggesting that Iran has changed its position, saying, “There has been absolutely no change in Iran’s positions,” and stressing that there is currently no discussion of any flexibility on the country’s stated conditions.
He reiterated that “the issue is clear” and that the immediate issue under discussion is the Strait of Hormuz, whose reopening is contingent on the conditions already communicated to the other side.
Araghchi urged the media and public not to heed speculation or deliberate attempts to create a particular atmosphere, emphasizing that Iran has clearly presented both its conditions and its proposed path toward a solution.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has also dismissed published reports about the content of consultations with the Qatari mediator on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, saying such accounts have no basis in reality and that no discussion of the details of the issues took place.
He added that the Iranian side conveyed its observations to the Qatari mediator and underlined Tehran’s consistent approach to diplomacy.
