TEHRAN – Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization is pursuing diplomatic and legal measures to restore suspended flight routes, including a formal complaint filed with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Iranian organization’s head Abuzar Shiroudi says.
Speaking to IRNA on Monday, Shiroudi said the organization, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry, was using all legal means to remove barriers and resume routes previously in operation.
He said Iran’s formal protest over restrictions imposed by the United States had been sent to ICAO with supporting documents detailing disruptions to flights.
Since direct European flights were restricted, connecting services through regional airports, including Istanbul, have been used as an alternative.
Shiroudi said Iran had also filed a complaint with The Hague over attacks on airports, aircraft and radars. He said ICAO had ruled in Iran’s favor, while the Hague case remains under review and any compensation depends on the court’s decision.
He added that Iran is pursuing the restoration of flights halted by several countries and is seeking explanations through diplomatic channels. Regarding Baghdad and Najaf airports, he said Iraqi authorities are working to resume services, with Najaf expected to reopen first in the coming days.
