TEHRAN -- Iran’s 

cinema market recorded its seventh consecutive week of audience growth, with 754,478 admissions generating 100 billion tomans (approximately $434,783 at an exchange rate of 230,000 tomans to the U.S. dollar) during the week ending Sept. 25, according to figures from Iran’s Samfa cinema sales and exhibition management system and the Cinema Shahr Institute. 

The latest reporting period marks a substantial increase from the 607,000 admissions recorded the previous week and continues a seven-week upward trajectory that began in mid-August.

The week’s clear box-office leader was “Khanom Valede”, the comedy directed by Soheil Movaffagh, which drew 484,041 admissions. The film, produced by Seyed Ebrahim Amerian, follows two financially troubled brothers whose circumstances change after they unexpectedly learn they have inherited money. 

Iranian trade reporting puts Khanom Valede’s weekly gross at 67 billion tomans, equivalent to approximately $291,304 at the specified exchange rate. 

The second-highest-attended film was “The Death Bath,” directed by Kazem Daneshi, with 61,780 admissions. The film centers on a prosecutor’s representative who travels to another city to oversee the execution of five prisoners convicted of murder. 

“Guardian,” the international title used for Yousef Hatamikia’s “Escort,” ranked third with 60,142 admissions. The 2026 action film stars Amir Jadidi, Hoda Zeinolabedin and Afshin Hashemi.  

“The Pool,” the international title for Soroush Sehhat’s “Estakhr,” attracted 49,916 admissions, placing fourth.  

Rounding out the top five was the animated feature “Savior Ship,” directed by Hadi Muhammadian, with 47,194 admissions. The film is produced by SkyFrame and is aimed at family audiences.  

The reported grosses for the five leading films, where available, were:

 

Khanom Valede: 67 billion tomans — approximately $291,304

Guardian: 8.3 billion tomans — approximately $36,087

The Death Bath: about 8 billion tomans — approximately $34,783

The Pool: 6 billion tomans — approximately $26,087

Savior Ship: 4.7 billion tomans — approximately $20,435  

 

Together, those reported grosses account for roughly 94 billion tomans, or about $408,696, of the industry’s approximately 100 billion-toman weekly total.

The attendance trend is equally notable. Weekly admissions climbed from 251,000 during Aug. 8–14 to 328,000, 352,000, 399,000, 485,000, 607,000 and finally 754,478 during the latest seven-week sequence. That represents roughly a 201% increase in weekly admissions from the beginning to the end of the period.  
The venue figures also point to accelerating activity. Kourosh Cineplex led individual cinema complexes with 45,976 admissions, up 98% week-on-week, followed by Iran Mall Cineplex with 30,337, Azadi Cineplex with 18,173, Hadish Cineplex with 16,458 and Lotus Mall Cineplex with 15,627.  
The surge comes as Iran’s schools reopen and family-oriented titles gain additional access to student audiences. Savior Ship, in particular, could benefit from organized school visits, while Khanom Valede has emerged as the principal commercial driver of the current market. 
Iranian trade reporting also notes that “Grape Seeds” and “Land of Angels” are continuing their theatrical runs while competing for Iran’s submission to the Academy Awards.
