TEHRAN - The CEO of 
Tavanir announced a 63% increase in hydropower generation in the first six months of 1405.
Muhammad Allahdad —emphasizing the strategic role of hydropower plants in grid stability and controllability—stated that hydropower generation reached 14.8 billion kilowatt-hours in the first six months of the year, marking a 63% growth compared to the same period last year; these plants accounted for 6% of the country’s total electricity generation mix.
In a joint meeting between Allahdad (CEO of Tavanir) and Davood Kamkar (CEO of the Iran Water & Power Resources Development Company)—held to examine strategies for managing the winter peak load of 1405 and planning for the peak load period of 1406—the current status of hydropower generation, development projects, and operational requirements for these capacities were reviewed.
During the meeting, Allahdad highlighted the performance of hydropower plants during this year’s peak load period, noting that they play a vital role in maintaining generation continuity, ensuring grid stability, and regulating frequency and voltage; he added that the controllability of these plants has made them a crucial component of grid management.
He added that in the operation of hydroelectric power plants, the supply and management of water for drinking and agriculture—alongside electricity generation—are two important, simultaneous constraints; therefore, planning and optimal operation must be carried out with due regard for both.
Pointing to upcoming plans to utilize hydroelectric power plant capacity, the CEO of Tavanir stated that, based on current planning, the commissioning of 65 megawatts of new hydroelectric capacity is scheduled for the cold season of the year 1405, with an additional 270 megawatts of new capacity planned for the peak load period of 1406.
