TEHRAN - Iran’s national men’s 3x3 basketball team stormed into the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Thursday, delivering a commanding 21-3 rout over host nation Japan in the quarterfinals.
- Following an undefeated preliminary run, the Iranian squad produced a clinical display against the tournament hosts, holding them to just three points to comfortably secure a berth in the final four.
Iran had advanced directly to the quarterfinal stage after topping their group with three consecutive victories, having defeated China 18-15, Hong Kong 16-11, and Malaysia 21-7.
In their quarterfinal encounter against Japan, Muhammad Basir Momeni led Iran’s offense with a game-high 8 points. Sarem Jafari and Muhammad Mehdi Rahimi contributed 5 points apiece, while Seyed Muhammad Ghaffari added 3 points to cap off the dominant performance.
