TEHRAN — A member of Iran’s Law Enforcement Command (Faraja) was martyred Monday while on duty in the city of Iranshahr, in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan, following as a terrorist attack by mercenaries of the enemy.
The officer died during a mission and attained the high station of martyrdom, Tasnim news agency said, adding that further details about the martyr’s identity, the circumstances of the attack, and other aspects of the incident would be announced later by official authorities.
The attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents targeting Iranian security forces and figures in the country’s border provinces with large ethnic minority populations. 
On September 11, three members of Iran’s security forces were martyred in a clash in Saravan, also in Sistan and Baluchistan, in which they killed four terrorists. 
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said the joint operation was carried out by Iranian security, intelligence and police forces, and stressed that having suffered a “flagrant defeat on the military front, the United States and Israel, in an attempt to cover up their failures, have ordered terrorist groups to cause insecurity in Sistan and Baluchistan”.
In the western province of West Azerbaijan, a Sunni Kurdish cleric, Mamosta Muhammad Nezhati, was martyred in early September. The IRGC said Zionist-American Kurdish separatist groups carried out the attack, describing it as an attempt to create divisions between Sunni and Shi’a Muslims and undermine
 security in the province.
President Donald Trump publicly admitted in April that the United States “sent guns, a lot of guns” to elements inside Iran, adding that “the people that they sent them to kept them”. 
A Fox News reporter quoted Trump as blaming “Kurdish intermediaries” for diverting the arms. Iran’s UN envoy, Amir Saeed Iravani, said in a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council that Trump’s remarks confirmed Washington’s “longstanding policy of creating, financing, and arming terrorist groups in the Middle East and beyond”.
Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced Sunday that it had identified and dismantled three operational cells linked to terrorist groups and enemy intelligence services across three provinces, with some elements killed and others arrested, including a cell tasked with bombing a key infrastructure facility in Bam.
