TEHRAN -- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said its intelligence forces killed two armed terrorists belonging to the Jaish al-Adl group during a clash in the southeastern city of Zahedan late on Thursday, the latest in a series of counter-terrorism operations in the Sistan and Baluchestan province.
The IRGC said its forces encountered a suspicious vehicle on University Street in Zahedan, the provincial capital, during a patrol. When officers approached and ordered the occupants to stop, the armed men opened fire, triggering an exchange. Two terrorists were killed and a third was wounded and arrested.
The operation came days after the assassination of Molavi Yousef Gargij, a prominent Sunni cleric known for promoting Shia-Sunni unity, who was assassinated outside his home in Zahedan on Monday. 
Iran’s Intelligence Ministry condemned the killing as a “terrorist act” and vowed to identify and prosecute those responsible.  
Last week, the IRGC Ground Force announced it had dismantled a “professional terror team” planning assassinations in Saravan County, killing four terrorists and seizing weapons, ammunition and explosives. 
Three IRGC personnel were also martyred in that operation. On August 29, security forces killed one terrorist and arrested six others in Saravan, seizing AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, RPG-7 launchers, about 20 kilograms of C-4 explosives and several Starlink terminals.
