President Pezeshkian Urges Boosting Iran’s Fisheries Exports

TEHRAN – The president of Iran emphasized the need to expand fisheries exports and make greater use of regional markets, calling for clearer and measurable goals for the country’s marine industries.
Speaking at a meeting of the Supreme Council of Marine Industries on Tuesday evening, Pezeshkian reviewed the country’s main priorities in the marine industries sector, ways to strengthen its capacities, and the council’s performance.
Pezeshkian stressed the need to redefine the council’s missions and priorities in line with the country’s current conditions and developments in marine industries. He called for clear, measurable goals and a defined vision to guide policymaking and enable the assessment of progress.
He also highlighted the need to make greater use of Iran’s coastal and marine capacities through coordination among different government bodies. He said the council’s broad missions should be translated into specific, targeted and time-bound policies and programs.
Referring to a report on a significant increase in fishing in distant waters and reduced reliance on imports in the sector, Pezeshkian emphasized creating the conditions for expanding fisheries exports.
The president said Iran should use its existing capacities to increase fisheries exports, generate foreign currency and strengthen its presence in regional markets.
