Andrei Stenin Contest Brings Global Photojournalism to Tehran

TEHRAN -- The winning photographs of The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest 2025 are now on view in Tehran, bringing together a generation of young photographers whose work confronts the fractures, rituals, and everyday realities of the contemporary world.
The exhibition opened on Monday at the House of Iranian Photographers Gallery at Hozeh Honari in Tehran, in collaboration with Mehr News Agency and the House of Iranian Photographers.
Now in its eleventh edition, the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest received approximately 2,000 entries from photographers in 40 countries. The 2025 edition brings together work by photographers from 15 countries, including Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Spain, and Myanmar.
Rather than adhering to a single visual language, the exhibition charts a broad geography of contemporary experience.
Its photographs move between conflict and resilience, environmental change and precarious labor, religious observance and vernacular traditions, intimate family life and the disorienting scale of disaster.
Documentary and photojournalistic practices become ways of bringing into focus circumstances that might otherwise remain distant or abstract: displacement, social inequality, ecological pressure, political unrest, and the persistence of ordinary life.
Among the photographers recognized in the 2025 competition are Reza Saifullah, whose Rohingya Capsized Boat received First Place in the Single category; Muhammad Amdad Hussain, awarded Second Place for Rescue; and Syed Mahamudur Rahman,

whose A Father’s Grief received Third Place.
Established by Rossiya Segodnya International Media Group in memory of Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin, the annual competition is dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging photographic talent while promoting professional standards in photojournalism and documentary photography.
Its international jury brings together leading photographers and representatives of major media organizations.
The Tehran presentation forms part of the competition’s international exhibition tour, through which the winning photographs are presented to audiences in different countries following each annual edition.
The exhibition remains on view through September 22 at the House of Iranian Photographers Gallery in Tehran.
