BEIRUT (Dispatches) — Israel launched a fresh wave of atrocities across Lebanon on Tuesday, striking near a UN peacekeeping position, obliterating a public school, and deploying drones over Beirut’s skies, even as Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors met in Washington to discuss a disgraceful ceasefire framework that exists in name only.
Lebanon‘s National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes bombed the vicinity of a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) position in the town of Hanin, in the Bint Jbeil district. 
The same aircraft carried out strikes on the town of Qantara in the Marjeyoun district and targeted the area of Ain al-Samahiyeh between Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Nabatieh al-Fawqa.
In a direct assault on Lebanon’s educational infrastructure, Israeli forces destroyed the Martyr Mahmoud Faqih Public School building in the town of Kfar Tibnit, southern Lebanon.
Aerial photographs showed the extent of the devastation caused by the demolition and explosion. 
The school administration had only just announced the start of student registration earlier this week, while weighing a shift to remote learning after the occupying forces razed the building.
Israeli fighter jets also struck multiple homes in the town of Al-Mansouri in the Tyre district, targeting the village in two consecutive waves of airstrikes. Israeli artillery shelled the Litani riverbed below the Beaufort Castle.
Israeli reconnaissance and combat drones flew at low altitude over Beirut and its southern suburbs throughout the day, according to the National News Agency. Israeli forces also fired a sound bomb toward a shepherd in the Arid area of the Marjeyoun district.
The Tuesday violence followed one of the deadliest days of Israeli bombardment in recent weeks. Lebanon’s health ministry said at least 13 people, including six children and three women, were killed Monday in an airstrike on a residential building in the southern town of Kfar Rumman as children prepared for school. 
A separate Israeli drone strike on a civilian vehicle killed one medic and wounded two others.
Eight-year-old Mustafa Farhat lost his grandparents and mother in the Kfar Rumman strike. Rescue workers were still searching for his father’s body. 
“What did they target?” his relative Mona Farhat told Reuters from the hospital. “What is the goal they are targeting? Do they want us to leave our land? They are mistaken.” 
UNIFIL recorded extensive Israeli violations over the weekend, including at least 32 airstrikes within its area of operations between Thursday and Sunday. 
Peacekeepers observed Israeli drones dropping explosive-filled jerrycans near Al Mansuri, with at least nine explosions on Saturday alone. Israeli personnel also held a UNIFIL patrol for two hours northeast of Kafer Chouba on Sunday.
Lebanon’s ambassador to Washington and Israel’s envoy were set to meet Tuesday to discuss the June framework agreement, according to An-Nahar. 
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone call with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, reaffirming Tehran’s “commitment to Lebanon‘s sovereignty and territorial integrity” and “full support for Lebanon’s resistance” against Israeli aggression.
Hezbollah and the Amal Movement issued a joint statement stressing that “civil peace is a red line” and calling for accelerated reconstruction and compensation for affected residents.
Israeli strikes on Lebanon have killed more than 4,300 people since March, including more than 250 children, nearly 400 women and more than 130 medics, according to Lebanon‘s health ministry.
